As per the suggestions of the parish priest, the bishop and the superior general Rev. Sr. Deodatta Mary, a hospital was set up at Vadalur in order to provide medical care to the people of Vadalur and the neighbouring villages where there is insufficient transport and medical facilities. It was decided to establish a convent and a despensary.
03.12.1961: Opening of the convent and the dispensary.
16.10.1967: Blessing of the 16 bedded Hospital by then Bishop. Most Rev. Ambrose.

Developmental activities

  • Part time doctors were appointed when there was scarcity of doctors for a full time service.
  • Sr. Dr. Bridgit Mary and Dr. Shanthi rendered their services as part time doctors.
  • Maternity care and treatment proved a great success.
  • Latest facilities like scan and Xray were introduced.
  • Geratric care and Convalescent home were opened.
  • Counselling sessions conducted whenever required.


As per the need of the hour, the superiors of the congregation decided for the renovation of all the hospitals and it was carried out in the year 2010 with which the home for the aged was also annexed.

Collaboration of Lourdes Province and Arupadai Veedu Medical college

In order to provide a revival to the hospital, the Provincial along with her councilors, the superior of Vadalur convent hold a discussion with the Dean Dr. Anusuya, M.D.,D.G.O., and the PRO Mr.Subramanian on 13.08.2014. The outcome of the meeting was to appoint fulltime and part-time doctors and nurses at the Vadalur hospital. The College management consented to provide payment to the doctors and nurses. Maintenance works like whitewashing, cleaning the restrooms, construction of toilets in scan room, dividing the doctor’s quarters into three rooms with attached bath were carried out by the efforts of the Provincial from the Provincialate fund.
